Evidence of a lipstick comes from mesopotamia in around 3000 B.C.E. It was made from crushed semi precious jewels and then put on the eyelids as well as the lips. Ancient Egyptian are first lovers to use colored paste on lips.

Cleopatra, pharoah of Egypt used crushed carmine beetles in a base made of ants as lipstick. Some formulations would resulted in serious illness or even death, such as the Ancient Egyptian concoction, which used a red dye extracted from seaweed, mixed with iodine and toxic bromine compounds.

Maurice levy invented the sliding tube now known as a lipstick in 1915. Levy’s tube was just 5cm long.the sliding tube worked by a set of slide lever in the casing. After some developments, levy added sliding-and-twist mechanism which we are using now a days.
After Egypt managed to spread their inventions and advancements across entire Europe, lipstick managed to find its home. Now we have a variety of lipstick with lots of shades.
